Hopla Ho on the Lindau Island: The Fool's Jump 2026 ignites Carnival magic

When drums roll, bells ring, and colorful mask-wearers conquer the old town, it's time for the Fool's Jump on the Lindau Island again. On Sunday, February 1, 2026, the Narrenzunft Lindau Bodensee e.V. celebrates an all-day open-air cultural festival with a fair, performances, and the grand parade through the streets – grounded in Swabian-Alemannic Carnival, carried by the community spirit of the festival family.

Tradition breathes: From fool mass to foolish finale

The day begins at 9:00 AM with the fool mass in the Münster zur Lieben Frau. From 10:00 AM, the morning is filled with early beer gatherings at the harbor and cultural performances: Bavarian anthem, excerpts from the Schäfflertanz of the Schäfflertanzgesellschaft Nonnenhorn, the Plätzler-Zunft Altdorf-Weingarten 1348 e.V., and the Kügeletanz of the Narrenzunft Spritzenmuck Ehingen set lively accents of festival culture. At 1:00 PM the Fool's Jump starts through the streets – afterwards, the day ends in a festive atmosphere at the harbor, with singing, swaying, and dancing at the marketplace until about 6:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, fanfare groups parade in a star march to the Reichsplatz.

Festival atmosphere to immerse in

Between lake breeze and church bells, the island unfolds its open-air acoustics: Fanfare blasts over the harbor, steps echo on cobblestones, confetti swirls through the winter air. On the main stage – marketplace, harbor, Reichsplatz – tradition meets the present. A multi-day experience frames the weekend: children's parade on the day before, Fool's Jump on Sunday – the community grows from the campsite feeling of the guilds to the side stage of street musicians.

Organization & Service: Festival badge, admission, safety

Admission is granted with a festival badge (€5.00) for adults and youth aged 16 and older. The festival organization coordinates the schedule, guild arrangements, and safety along the route. Please anticipate dense visitor flows in the island core; follow the instructions of the staff and use designated entrances.

Festival grounds & Arrival

The event location is Lindau Island (old town). Expect closures in the island core and altered city bus routes on the event day. Parking spaces are limited; recommended: arrival by train to the island station or by regional bus to ZUP and walk further. Make sure to wear weatherproof clothing, slip-resistant shoes, and gloves – winter open-air demands smart equipment.

Guild line-up & Program highlights

Artist line-ups in tradition: Schäfflertanzgesellschaft Nonnenhorn, Plätzler-Zunft Altdorf-Weingarten 1348 e.V., Narrenzunft Spritzenmuck Ehingen, among others. Main stages are marketplace and harbor; side-stages form streets, squares, and fanfare groups on the way to the Reichsplatz. The highlight: Fool's Jump at 1:00 PM – the parade of masks and fanfares across the island.
