Brazilian Heartbeat in Franconia: The Samba Festival Conquers Coburg
For three days, Coburg pulsates to the beat of the Surdos: From July 10th to 12th, 2026, the International Samba Festival transforms the historic city center into a bubbling open-air mecca with main stages, side stages, street samba, and an energetic festival atmosphere. Organized by Sambaco GmbH, it is considered the largest samba festival outside Brazil.
Rhythm in Every Square: Line-up, Stages, Festival Character
Between the marketplace, castle square, and winding alleys, the multi-day experience unfolds with drum and dance acts, workshops, and competitions. Around 3,000 sambistas and numerous groups from Europe and Brazil bring open-air acoustics, dazzling costumes, and driving grooves to the main stage and side stages – until late at night.
Experienced Organization: From Idea to Showpiece
Since 1992, the Coburg Cabana has grown into a cultural beacon: privately organized by Sambaco, awarded among others with the Bavarian Export Prize (2011) and as the best samba event outside Brazil (Edison-Carneiro Prize, 2014). Today, the festival attracts six-figure visitor numbers and strengthens the image and local economy.
Tickets, Admission, Family-Friendliness
The pre-sale is ongoing: 3-day tickets from 29 euros, day tickets available on-site. Children up to and including 12 years have free admission when accompanied. Packing recommendation: small bags, drinks up to 0.5 l (no glass, no cans). People with disabilities can purchase regular tickets; accompanying persons receive a free day wristband on-site with appropriate proof.
Camping Feel and Camper Place: Proximity to City Center
For festival fans with tents, the camping area at Ketschenanger offers an authentic community feeling: Overnight stay approx. 8 euros per person per night, a one-time fee of 10 euros for cars; showers and sanitary facilities included, no electricity. The separate camper place (motorhome/caravan) is also located at Ketschenanger, with tiered entry fees and identical overnight costs; the same applies here: no electricity.
Relaxed Arrival and Departure: Shuttle, P+R, City Traffic
During the festival weekend, Coburg recommends P+R services and special buses. Park-and-Ride is offered among others at the HUK-COBURG arena and the district office; special and night lines run back in the evening. City center areas are temporarily closed; Ketschenanger will not serve as a public parking lot during this time.
Conclusion: Three Days of Joy for Life, That Remains
For those who love samba, Coburg offers a captivating open-air spectacle with a packed program, close community, and real festival grounds flair. Secure your tickets in time, plan camping or P+R – and immerse yourself in drumming, dance, and the warmth-glowing night of the Coburg Cabana.
