Old Package Hall Coburg | Events & Christmas Market

The Old Package Hall in Coburg is a renovated industrial location at the freight station, just a few minutes' walk from the main train station. The ensemble of two halls, an office block, historic loading ramps, and a spacious outdoor area combines raw industrial charm with modern event infrastructure. In recent years, the hall has gained regional attention as a stage for design festivals, trade fairs, cultural, university, and music formats. Visitors appreciate the central location, quick accessibility, and versatile spatial effect between brick, wooden structures, and open areas. The area also has culinary and atmospheric appeal: the open bar area under the characteristic Zollinger roof and the restored panoramic carriage in the outdoor area provide recognition value and additional usage possibilities. Since April 2023, the hall has been officially bookable for external events, significantly expanding the range of programs. Those seeking an urban backdrop, short distances, and creative freedom will find an authentic venue for events ranging from small experiments to large crowd pullers. Events and Program at the Old Package Hall Coburg

The program spectrum of the Old Package Hall is diverse and reflects the creative urban development around the freight station. Key formats include the Coburg Design Days, a multi-day design festival that has been regarded as a meeting point for the regional and national creative scene for decades. The historic hall has repeatedly served as a home for the event, providing not only exhibition space but also room for talks, performances, and networking. In addition to the design focus, the location has also opened up for innovation and science events: The Upper Franconia Innovation Summit 2025 brought together founders, companies, science, and politics over two days – with workshops, pitch events, expos, and keynote speeches. Furthermore, university and city projects use the halls for exchange and sustainability topics, such as the Coburg Sustainability Days with a multi-day program of lectures, forums, and family-friendly offerings. Job and training fairs also take place here, such as the Coburg Career Compass with numerous exhibitors and low-threshold advice on professions, further education, and regional employers. The calendar is complemented by nightlife and pop culture formats: electronic music nights, curated club events, and collaborations with scene collectives showcase the industrial architecture and bring internationally touring DJs to the city. This mix of creative economy, education, business, and culture ensures a high quality of stay – from afternoon trade fair visits to late-night experiences. With the official bookability since April 2023, organizers now have planable structures and contacts that operate and further develop the area professionally. Winter Magic and Christmas Market: Lights, Art, and Crafts

A new highlight in the annual calendar is the Winter Magic at the Track: From November 13 to 16, 2025, the Old Halls and the outdoor area will transform into a festive art and crafts market. Inspired by British Christmas lights traditions, the event opens the pre-Christmas season with a ceremonial lighting ceremony – the switching on of the Christmas tree on Thursday evening at 8:00 PM. Visitors can expect a curated selection of manufacturers, designers, and food trucks; the outdoor bar at Zollinger is open on all days, offering hot and cold drinks from mulled wine to non-alcoholic alternatives. The central opening hours extend throughout the entire period into the late evening, making a visit after work, study, or shopping just as possible as a family outing on the weekend. Admission costs 10 euros – a ticket that is valid for all days, making spontaneous return visits and longer stays attractive. Thanks to its location at the freight station, arriving by train is particularly convenient; it is only a few minutes' walk from the main train station. Regional tourism and city portals support the event with schedules and background information, making the Winter Magic quickly visible beyond the city limits. The format not only strengthens the local creative economy scene but also gives the area at the freight station a bright exclamation mark at the end of the year. Flea Market, Design Market, and Creative Formats

The Old Package Hall is predestined for markets and pop-up formats that benefit from the raw aesthetics and spacious areas. Design and manufacturing markets utilize the halls to showcase regional labels, upcycled products, and contemporary crafts. Organizers point out that the former goods hall has been upgraded with modern infrastructure as a gathering place – ideal conditions for temporary marketplaces with high quality of stay. In addition to curated design markets, the area thrives on sustainable exchange and used formats: The Coburg Goods Exchange Days regularly invite people to bring and take, with leftover items donated to social institutions. Such events connect to the DNA of the place: goods handling, movement, recycling – today interpreted as sharing, circular design, and community. New market ideas also find space here, from lifestyle to scene markets. The broad usage spectrum also attracts young target groups who discover the hall as an urban meeting point for workshops, talks, performances, and club culture. The Package Hall has repeatedly served as a stage for electronic music nights, featuring renowned acts and collectives that rethink the area acoustically and visually. In total, dense, diverse weekends emerge where exhibitions, sales, exchanges, and entertainment seamlessly blend – a hallmark of the Package Hall that is reflected in image series and social media. Directions & Parking at the Coburg Freight Station

Thanks to its proximity to the city, the Old Package Hall is particularly accessible on foot and by public transport. The freight station is located just a few hundred meters from the main train station; depending on the route, the footpath leads along the tracks directly to the area. For drivers, there are parking spaces on the access road to the Package Hall, which are designated during event operations. A reliable, large-scale option is the Anger parking lot: it offers several hundred parking spaces, is barrier-free accessible, and regulated by a barrier and license plate system; rates are designed for daily and multi-day use. Additionally, the centrally located parking garages Mauer, Post, and Zinkenwehr, as well as the underground garage Albertsplatz, are available. The city's parking guidance system and parking information pages show current available capacities and provide information on closures or event times. For individual events – such as sustainability days or goods exchange days – temporary traffic regulations or alternative routes (e.g., via Ernst-Faber-Straße/Globe access) may apply; current information is published on the respective organizer pages. Those arriving in an environmentally friendly manner benefit from the direct proximity to the train station: especially for evening events, the short walk back to the train is a plus. For guests with mobility impairments, it is worth checking the event information, as individual venues in the area (e.g., the Small Package Hall or the Old Cooling Hall as another venue) communicate their own visitor recommendations and parking tips. Tickets, Seating Plan, and Capacities

As a modular industrial location, the Old Package Hall does not have a rigid, permanent seating plan logic. Seating and area plans are created project-specifically, depending on whether a trade fair, market, concert, or theater evening takes place. A proven example of fixed capacities is provided by the Small Package Hall, which offers about 200 seats for theater productions; the box office was located in the neighboring Globe. For music and club formats, mixed zones of dance floor, lounge, and bar are often planned; at markets, wide walkways, island stands, and outdoor extensions on the ramps and open spaces dominate. Ticket acquisition always depends on the organizer: for the Winter Magic at the Track, a simple, visitor-friendly model with a 10-euro ticket that covers all days is in place, available in advance and at the box office. Cultural and theater formats use their own distribution channels of the respective houses, while trade fairs and career events typically rely on free admissions or online registrations. Those who wish to use the halls themselves will find clear contacts, references, and a bookable infrastructure with the city’s economic development agency – officially available for external uses since April 2023. The combination of flexibility and robust basic equipment makes the Package Hall attractive for organizers with various requirements. History, Renovation, and Special Places: Zollinger and Panoramic Carriage

The Old Package Hall is part of the historic freight station and former slaughterhouse area, which the city of Coburg has acquired and gradually reactivated. For years unused, the distinctive hall came back into public consciousness from the mid-2010s – initially through special permits for the Coburg Design Days and other flagship events. The area is now positioned as a creative bridge between the city center, business, and university. A special feature is the characteristic Zollinger roof in the outdoor area, which is now used as an open bar and meeting point structure. Equally defining is the panoramic carriage, a meticulously restored car from the historic Rheingold Express, which serves as an extraordinary meeting and conference room and makes the railway history of the place visible. With the formal opening for external bookings (since April 2023) and the city’s economic development agency as the operator, the Package Hall received a professional operational structure, including a 3D tour and reference projects. The official launch of the area was ceremoniously made up for in the summer; the city emphasized the uniqueness of such a location in a city of Coburg's size. Thus, the Old Package Hall sets a strong signal for the cultural and economically relevant interim use of historical building substance – and creates spaces where past, present, and future come together productively. The old package hall is the remaining part of the former freight station. Once again in 2019, it was time... The grounds of the former freight station have once again put DESIGN in the spotlight – the label "Designtage" has had a very good reputation for many years, far beyond Coburg and its region. In a chill atmosphere, both innovative companies and students from Coburg University showcase their design products during these days. On warm summer evenings, with refreshing drinks and jazzy music, Coburg shows its best side....

The old package hall in Coburg is an ideal place for cultural events of all kinds. A great atmosphere has been created here with a lot of skill. There are many cozy seating options in the outdoor area that invite you to linger and enjoy. On mild summer evenings, it’s pure pleasure! Parking is available directly at the old package hall, but if many cars need a spot, the large parking lot at Anger in Coburg is easily reachable on foot.
